However, you can’t directly rename a remote branch as you need to push the renamed local branch to the remote repository and then delete the old branch from there. The trick is to remove the old branch from the remote repo, then push the new branch upstream. Notice the character that prefixes the master branch: it indicates the branch that you currently have checked out (i.e., the branch that HEAD points to). If you run it with no arguments, you get a simple listing of your current branches: git branch iss53 master testing.
